Essential Winter Vehicle Maintenance Checklist
Though Arizona winters are typically mild compared to other states, 2024 arrives with a cold front. Overnight, we may even experience freezing conditions, so it is essential to keep up with routine and seasonal maintenance.
- CHECK YOUR TIRES. When the weather changes, so does your tire pressure! Maintaining the proper tire pressure is as important as getting routine oil changes. As the weather cools down from our typical 100+ degrees, tire pressure tends to decrease. You can check out the vehicle guide from the manufacturer or Google to see what your tires should be at!
- If you live in parts of Arizona where it snows, like Flagstaff, you may need to switch out your regular tires for snow tires. If snow tires are necessary, you will want to make sure you also have chains.
- INSPECT YOUR BATTERY. One of the most important things you can do is test your battery. Temperature change may decrease your battery’s power – if your battery is low when you test it, it is best to get a new one.
- WINDSHIELD CHECK. Take care of any windshield cracks you may have. As it gets colder, there is potential for the cracks to spread and grow. If there is any chance of your windows freezing over, you can swap out your regular wipers for winter wipers.
- TEST YOUR HEAT! Everyone knows those early Arizona mornings in the winter can be brutal! Make sure the heater in your car works so you can be sure to not catch a cold and stay comfortable on your drive to work or taking the kids to school.
- CHECK YOUR BRAKES. Make sure your brakes are in premium condition. Water and cold weather on brakes make it necessary for you to apply more pressure and hold the brake pedal down for longer to stop. This can potentially cause brakes to overheat, which can lead to them not working as well as they should.
